Niigata City Art Museum

Niigata City Art Museum opened on October 13, 1985 near Niigata City’s city center in Nishi Ohata. The museum’s architecture was designed by MAYEKAWA Kunio, who also designed Nishi Ohata Park across the street.
The museum specializes in Japanese modern and contemporary art centering around Niigata and Western modern art, and possesses a collection of over 5000 pieces. In order to introduce the diversity and quality of the collection to the public, about four thematic exhibitions of works from the collection are presented each year in the Collection Gallery. Temporary exhibitions are also organized periodically to present the work of artists from Japan and overseas in a wide variety of mediums in the Temporary Exhibition Gallery. We hope that the exhibitions we organize will be of interest to people throughout the world as well as in our local community.
